Several whatsapp groups are being used to distribute hazardous APK files under the guise of job offers. The messages are promising employment, opportunities, to unsuspecting job seekers into downloading and installing the app. Upon installing, these APK files can access sensitive data, track user activity and even gain control over the device. The victim from Ameerpet said that the WhatsApp groups admin had sent on APK urging members to install the app to get a regular daily payment job. When the victim downloaded the APK , the app began disabling the security feature and the mobile showed pop-ups asking permission to disable google play services.

” I realized something bad was happening, so I immediately removed the app and factory reset my entire phone”. The victim said, while adding that despite doing so, how the phone was constantly hanging up. Cybercrime Inspector Naresh stated ” we request the public to be very cautious. Never install APK files from unknown sources, especially those received by whatsapp or other Social Media platforms. Users can further check the permission granted to the installed app and revoke them. Users can access permission settings by going to sittings then app, selecting the app and reviewing app permission. It would otherwise be barred from accessing. The Maharashtra cyber security post said ” Cybercriminals, calling a new app TikTok pro, are sending messages on various social media platforms to download some from external links. This gallery, mic and other among few, steering sensitive information from your phone. If you come across such a message through any social media platforms, delete it and strictly do not forward to others. This fake app isn’t available on the Google Play app and hence people are also not advised to download it from any external sources.
